Our Council’s History in Brief
It all kicked off in the fall of 1994, when District Deputy Charles Maloney and District Warden Rich Oliva teamed up with Louis Nagy to launch a Knights of Columbus council at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish. Our enthusiastic Rector, Fr. Bob Mattingly, gave the green light, and by January 20, 1995, we'd rallied over 40 members—surpassing Supreme's requirements! That's how Council 11483 was born, and we've been thriving ever since! Our Exciting Early Events
September 16, 1995: Spanish American Dance – George Ponzio and Henry Libergall whipped up delicious dishes as chief cooks, while the Spanish American Society of Port Charlotte provided lively music. Everyone had an absolute blast!
Later that Month: Parish Picnic – We sponsored a fun-filled gathering at Harbor Heights Park, bringing the community together.
Fundraising Fun and Community Support
November 20, 1995: First Fundraiser – Ron Ferguson from Silk & Sea generously donated a stunning lighted Christmas Holy Family Centerpiece worth $325. Art Croteau scored a $50 gift certificate for selling 190 tickets, and Stan Brokaw and Ted Rivera each sold over 100—what a team effort!
December 1996: Second Fundraiser – Another beautiful nativity scene from Ron Ferguson helped us raise even more for great causes.
Delicious Dinners and Celebrations
January 22, 1996: First Spaghetti Dinner – Adults dined for just $2.50, and kids ate free! Thanks to chief cook Jim LaBee, we even purchased a new stove for the kitchen, which powered countless future feasts.
February 19, 1996: First Social Dance – John Del Genio kept the tunes spinning for a night of joy and dancing.
March 14, 1996: Marriage Vows Renewal – Fr. Bob led a heartfelt service where 22 couples renewed their vows, celebrating 839 years of marriage and 92 children. Certificates for all—what a touching milestone!

May 23, 1996: Girl Scout Sponsorship – We earned a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting Troop #177, led by Dorothy King and Beatrice Briggs. Proud to empower the next generation!
